4. 7 Characteristics Of A Digitally Competent Teacher

https://www.teachthought.com/the-future-of-learning/7-characteristics-digitally-competent-teacher/

This article had a fun graphic that summed up the 7 characteristics of a digitally competent teacher.  First and foremost a teacher can integrate digital learning into everyday life and they make the comparison of if you can shop you can teach and I agree with this.  The next two go together as they mention having a balanced approach and at the same time willingness to take risks again this makes sense.  The next idea is about the ability to communicate across multiple platforms and if you take risks you will be able to do this.  I find the next topic the most challenging as it mentions the ability to create and find quality digital assessments.  I have started to do this but I admit it can be time consuming and frustrating as well.  The last two also seem to run together as one talks about respecting privacy and the other says that you are a digital citizen.  I believe anyone and everyone in education should follow this as it is part of being a professional sadly some allow their online personas to take away from their professionalism.

  1. I agree that the biggest challenge is finding quality digital assessments and also be creative. This new "format" that we have been forced into using, the digital classroom, has really put me to the test. It is very time consuming! However, I find it fascinating to see all that can be explored. I tend to get lost in cyberspace for hours until I realize that I didn't get the work done that I set out to do. All I keep saying to my students is: "If only I had all these resources when I was in school".

  2. Dom, the point you made about it being time-consuming and frustrating is key.

  3. Yes it is very time consuming to find or create digital assessments. Your point about risk taking is very poignant because as teachers we find it difficult to get out of our comfort zone, but more often than not when I do try novel things they really do work and it is nice to do
