Angela ~ 21 Simple Ideas to Improve Student Motivation

https://www.teachthought.com/pedagogy/21-simple-ideas-to-improve-student-motivatio/

The compiled suggestions in the article on how to improve student motivation I found to be an awesome motivator for me as an instructor and for my own professional development.  Obviously, this is meant for our students, but I truly find such value in it for myself as well.  My goal is to incorporate all 21 ideas into my curriculum and classes for next year. It is a win-win situation. I would say out of the 21 items that were listed there are many that have already been incorporated into my curriculum. Some of them, however, can use some revision. I also need to stay focused and keep these items alive for the entire school year.

As any school year progresses, it becomes difficult to keep 30+ seniors in high school motivated with their schoolwork. They are all focused and totally motivated for their senior year to end and their "new life" away at college to begin. Many of the items I know to be motivators for myself, so I am optimistic that they would also motivate a class full of active, stressed out, and anxious high school seniors. I believe this list could be used for a new teacher workshop to help guide class management and organization. I am looking forward to getting to work to prepare me in advance for the beginning of the 2021 graduating class.

  1. This is a great article in that in the education field we always tend to hear how to keep students motivated and we, the teachers, seem to be left behind, as if we don't need any motivation. It was great how you said that you could use the motivators for yourself to keep the students motivated. I never thought to do that.

  2. Bless you. Having to teach seniors any year but especially this year is an unenviable task. I have a few friends who always seem to teach seniors and they say after Christmas its a real uphill battle. If you are keeping it fresh and finding ways to motivate that is truly awesome.
