This article shared some great ideas for a smooth running classroom. All of the normal routines are now changed and we have had to come up with online routines and have faced new challenges of conducting class in this manner. One point made was having a way to quiet the class. Well, this is an easy one on zoom with the ability to mute a student if they are interrupting during instruction. I haven't had this happen but have instructed the students, that in the event, I have this ability, and can also place them in a breakout room, and will be having a one on one discussion with them about their behavior. Another great idea that can also be used for online is to have the students share in making up the rules. I actually did this by sharing a whiteboard and had the students write suggestions on how we should conduct the class online. The last action that I am taking form this article is to make up a daily evaluation for each student to take after the class has ended. I can see an easy checklist, or rating scale, that they can fill out to indicate how they felt the lesson went, rate their effort, attentiveness, and monitor their progress.

  1. Great tips, especially for the position we are finding ourselves in with the pandemic. I've actually had to kick a student out of my Zoom classroom for being disruptive and inappropriate. Not everyone can handle this type of learning environment. I do the like the idea of the follow up questions, hoping they actually do them and do them honestly so you know how to proceed with future lessons.

  2. I wish I had a mute button for the live classroom as in several of my classes I would use it. I agree its a good feature but my thinking is that if the kids go through the trouble of logging into the meeting they will probably be respectful of you and your time.

  3. I really like the idea of continuing with the student evaluations in the virtual learning environment. I typically have a quick questionnaire for the student to complete after clinical to see how they felt everything went. To have the students evaluate how each class went virtually, and get their opinions as well as a quick assessment for the teachers is a great way to keep track of the students progress. They don't really engage like they did in the classroom and it is important to be able to make these assessments in this new environment. I have a feeling this style of teaching is not going anywhere so why not embrace it and make it the best experience possible.

  4. Getting feedback at the end of the lesson is an excellent way to find out what the kids understood and what they need help on and it does get them involved. I clicked on the link and read the article and am glad I did because it does offer helpful and timely hints
