1.Five smart ways to use wearable technology in the classroom

This article highlights five basic wearable technologies with general information on how they work.  GoPro, activity trackers, smart watches, virtual reality field trips, and using the right music to study are the main topics.  While I agree with most of the information in the article I still have a hard time seeing music being a useful study tool.  I realize the right music can set the mood for a student to focus and work but in my experience the majority of kids use music in a way that it is more of a distraction and not a helpful tool

  1. Dom, I agree that most students are distracted by music and it can be very hard to monitor them wearing headphones in class. I like to play music myself, so I get that some are able to use the tool to avoid distractions, but we know our kids....they push the limits of everything! Hope you are well. Stay safe.

  2. I had to chuckle at your comment about music being more of a distraction for students than a source of being a tool to help focus on work. Perhaps I found it funny because I know how I am! Not only does music distract me when I am trying to study, the simplest sound or disruption will take me off track and I can lose focus. I have never been able to understand how the students that say they work better with earphones and music blaring can work not only to keep focused, but to also retain the information.

  3. I agree many kids say music helps them focus but I am skeptical of that in most cases. Some students absolutely seem to thrive with their headphones on while doing seat work. But others seem to be distracted and focus more on "finding songs" One thing I like to do is put on classical music in the background but at a very low volume and it helps me focus but when I put on other music it is hard for me to stay on task
