Jen Gleason- How Wearable Technology will Change our Lives - Ted Talk

In this video, I like how the speaker took us back to some of the first wearable technology, such as the wrist watch. I also noticed he shared three categories that wearables fall into -  activity monitors, head-mounted displays and smart watches. Based on other readings and the new information I am learning, it seems as though the head mounted display may be the next big thing. Other than the smart watch, it's surprising that wearable technology hasn't taken off more. My guess it is the affordability and its accessibility to the consumer market. Unfortunately, what comes with those technologies is security. How secure will these technologies be? And how much of your life is really private anymore if the norm will soon be to have wearable technology. And if wearables make life more efficient, will further demand be placed on the human being? Although rather fascinating to be so connected to information and data a bit scary in a way too.

  1. Thinking about privacy can be scary. I get concerned when I get a prompt from my smartphone that looks unfamiliar to me. Every time I look into the new prompt to see if its a scam it turns out to be legitimate but I always assume the worst and I think that comes with the fear of my privacy with technology - Dom S

  2. Jen, I have to agree with your thoughts about affordability being one of the roadblocks to making the new wearable technology more appealing or more popular. I can remember back when video cameras were first out on the market. They were "wearable" in the sense that it was so heavy you had to literally wear it on your shoulder. ;-) The expense of these first video cameras also made them a luxury for many families. However, as items like these became more affordable, the popularity and accessibility definitely will help drive the market. ~Angela

  3. Affording some of these new technologies is so astronomical, it's ridiculous! And you're right, security breaches are pretty scary matters. I wish we could just really trust the world of technology, but we can't.

  4. The security aspect is so very scary. We all have to keep that in our thoughts as we introduce any new technology into our lives whether at school or at home.

  5. I agree with all , privacy is a huge concern and we have to be mindful of student privacy. Also I agree affordability is a bit obstacle
