Angela Hunger- Article #3

https://www.teachthought.com/pedagogy/why-some-teachers-are-against-technology-in-education/

This article discusses the problems with the #edtech conversation. Some teachers are all for teaching technology and some are completely against it. I for one think it is a great tool and all classes, regardless of age should be using and teaching technology. It is the now, it is the future, it is what kids know and it is what kids like, can relate to. Now, more than ever we are all relying on technology within our classrooms due to the pandemic. Without google classroom, zoom ans the online materials I used this past school year, I would t have had a class. We stayed 100% virtual since March 2020. We still have yet to return to our classroom. Without technology, this would t have been possible, and for that I am thankful. The article talks about about how technology is designed to stir emotions, and emotions are getting stirred in both directions. They make some valid points that technology changes the curriculum, can be expensive, it can be hard for some to learn. However, it's not all teachers that are not good at it that are against it. Some teachers are very tech savvy, and great at using it, but are against using it to teach for these reasons. Technology doesn't make teaching better and it doesn't make teaching worse, in the end it changes it completely.

  1. Hi Angela - I wrote about this article too! I agree that technology is here to stay and am so thankful for it. I think it has become so clear over the past year and a half of COVID teaching that using a lot of technology changes education in so many ways - assessment, classroom management, feedback procedures, etc. That is huge and was the #1 topic of conversation during faculty and department meetings for us last year. Unfortunately, I think it's also a topic that is either misunderstood or not addressed in the educational community as a whole. Really makes you think!
